CURRICULUM

Stella Maris classes are different in that they used a brain-based learning approach. Based on scientific research, brain-based learning limits lecture length to combine it with exercise, team learning, and peer-teaching — for better overall memorization, stronger knowledge retention, and deeper comprehension.

  • Additional Details

Sections may be broken up into Lower & Upper levels based on enrollment.

Classes focus on group-work and teams to help students learn how to collaborate with others. Lessons run for 45 minutes with a 15-minute break in between. Students play on the indoor field at 2|42 during breaks, which may include organized games or free-play.

FINANCE

Students will learn age-appropriate financial literacy concepts with hands-on and applied activities to reinforce in-depth financial knowledge that can be applied for life!

REASONING
& DIALECTICS

Focuses on Socratic circles, different types of reasoning, beginning philosophical concepts, and the principles of argument, rhetoric, and debate. Students also work on writing and presenting speeches and strategy games to build strong reasoning and critical thinking schools.

MARTIAL ARTS

Students will learn to appreciate the dignity of their bodies and awareness of their strength and power with age-appropriate martial arts. Concepts of dignity, virtue, and service to others will be incorporated.

MUSIC &
THEATER

Taught by the wonderful Ms. Corinne, students learn how to read note counts, read notes, count rhythm, sing, play recorder, and so much more. This is one of our most popular classes!

In the Spring, Logic students switch to Theater, where they explore notable plays and the foundations of role-play and theater.

ART

Our beautiful art classes go beyond crayon and papers. Students learn to use different art mediums, appreciate classical art that represents Gospel scenes, and to embrace their creativity with various prompts and inspirational ideas.

CGS &
CATECHISM

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd combines the beauty of our faith with the success of Montessori techniques, which invites children into a rich and personal relationship with Jesus and His Church.

Upper Logic-level students focus on Discipleship — both what it means to be a follower of Jesus and how we share that faith and relationship with others.

FAQs

  • Families must register for either all morning classes, all afternoon classes, or all day on Tuesday. These are not offered individually for safety and logistical reasons.

  • Parents are expected to be onsite to fulfill various volunteer roles. Please see Handbook for role descriptions. There are several common areas at the 2|42 Community Center, including Stateside Deli.

  • The backbone of successful co-ops (besides Jesus Christ and our faith!) is the willingness of everyone to pitch in a little to get a lot and serve many.

Parents are required to volunteer onsite in a variety of roles. In addition, families are expected to actively participate in Stella Maris fundraisers and some may be asked to fulfill other off-site roles (such as marketing or grant writing).

Families may be exempt from an onsite volunteer role if: 1) you are 6 months or less postpartum or 2) have a serious medical condition. Parents may also elect to pay $500/child/semester for a “drop-off” option, which relieves them of their onsite volunteering commitment.

  • Students will be given a Stella Maris tshirt to be worn every week. Stella Maris expects all students and parents to dress modestly and in a way that reflects our inherent dignity as children of God. This means: no heavily stained/ripped/threadbare clothing; no mid-drifts, low-cut tops, or spaghetti straps; no leggings as pants unless worn under long tunic-style shirts, dresses, or skirts; no flip-flops or sandals.

  • We invite Stella Maris families to join each other once a month to celebrate mass at St. Mary Magdalen parish in Brighton for their regularly scheduled 9am daily mass. We encourage families to make daily mass a part of their routine and also hope that families may coordinate separately to meet each other at mass on co-op days — or any day of the week!
